Independence Day

Malagasy people celebrate Independence Day every year on the 26th of June. It is the greatest event on Madagascar's calendar, and henceforth is an exciting and entertaining day. Visiting of a session of "Hira Gasy" allows you to experience a taste of genuine, typical Malagasy folklore: in this, dance and a Speaker's Corner bind together in a competitive and entertaining way. Independence Day revolves around a celebration of everyday life, and as such excessive eating and drinking feature quite prominently in the celebrations.
